SUPPORT THROUGH THE STORM

Like thousands of others, Slumber Parties Distributors along the Gulf Coast were left with no homes, clothes or food in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. For these women, however, there was hope. Because of the nature of their home-based business, they could quickly rebuild. Although Gulf Coast Distributors lost much, they were able to get back on their feet through donations of products, cash and supplies from other Slumber Parties Distributors.

Even before Katrina hit the shore, there was an outpouring of concern and support among all Slumber Sisters. E-mails and bulletin board posts offered words of hope and promises of prayers that everyone would be safe. Corporate Office employees in Baton Rouge kept in touch with everyone as often as possible to let them know the state of affairs at home. However, many in the New Orleans and Biloxi areas were not heard from for days.

As news arrived of the coastal residents, Distributors were torn between relief and shock. Although their sisters had survived, many of them were now without homes and all the basic necessities of life.

Slumber Parties immediately converted space in their Baton Rouge warehouse to hold the hundreds of donations coming in from Distributors worldwide. Individual Distributors began challenging others in their area to send food, clothes, toys, gift cards and anything else that might be useful in rebuilding the lives of those affected by the storms.

An effort was organized for Distributors to donate items from their own stock to replenish the demonstrations of those on the Gulf Coast. These product donations were probably one of the best gifts Slumber Parties Distributors could give. Using these items, Distributors in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama could begin rebuilding their business. Through holding Slumber Parties, they were able to once again provide for their families in their new locations.

On Oct. 2, 2005, Slumber Parties owner, Kim Brecheen, along with other Corporate Office staff members traveled to Jackson, Miss. to deliver boxes of supplies to those in need. Boxes of clothes, dishes, towels and more were presented to a number of Gulf Coast Distributors to help them rebuild their lives. With these gifts, Distributors were able to support their families, restart their businesses and get back on their feet.

Slumber Parties, Inc. is a Baton Rouge based company that believes in empowering women to take control of their lives both personally and professionally. They offer women the opportunity to start their own business and to work with others to educate them in ways to enhance relationships. Since its founding in 1993, Slumber Parties has become one of the most trusted companies for adult in-home parties.
